Map data

Country outlines come from Natural Earth, a public domain map dataset, in the 1:50 million scale version distributed by world-atlas. The world map uses the Natural Earth projection, and detailed outlines for the smallest countries and territories use the larger-scale Natural Earth data. Outlines are simplified for fast loading, so they are for learning and not for navigation or legal boundaries.

Where a border or territory is disputed, the site follows common practice for a learning tool and does not take a political position.

Facts and flags

Capitals, regions and country facts are standard geographic reference information.

Most flag images come from country-flag-icons by catamphetamine, used under the MIT licence (Copyright (c) 2020 catamphetamine). The flags for Kashmir, Northern Cyprus and Somaliland were drawn for this site.
