About Learn the Countries
A free way to learn where every country is, one neighbour at a time.
What it is
Learn the Countries is a free map-based learning site. You can explore the world map, take quizzes where each country you name unlocks the ones next to it, build a study list of the countries you find hardest, and come back each day to refresh what you have learned.
Every country and territory also has its own page with the capital, neighbours, flag and a few key facts, so the site works as a quick reference too.
Who makes it
Learn the Countries is made and looked after by me, Joe Spiers, an independent creator based in the UK.
I am a video editor with a Computer Science degree, and I have been making things for the internet for years. The best known is the gaming YouTube channel DefendTheHouse, which I have run since 2008. Building websites and tools is the other half of that: I like making things people can use straight away, with nothing to sign up for.
This site started as a personal project to get better at geography, and it grew into something worth sharing. I design it, write it and build it myself, so if you have an idea or spot something wrong, you are talking to the person who can fix it.
How it works for you
There is nothing to sign up for. Your progress is saved privately in your own browser, so it stays on your device. See the privacy page for the detail.
